The name Magaliesburg/Magaliesberg comes from the original name Mohale Mohale.
Mohale Mohale was chief of the Po tribe during the time of the Voortrekkers. The Magaliesburg River and The Magaliesburg Mountain range also take their names from this source.
There are over 120 different species of trees in the Magaliesburg area and over 100 various types of grasses! Many years ago elephant and lion roamed this area freely until hunters decimated them. However, leopard can still be spotted in kloofs and ravines of this area.
